Sigurimi
Sigurimi was the secret police of Albania during the communist regime, operating from 1944 until the early 1990s. Its primary role was to maintain state security and suppress dissent against the government. The organization was known for its extensive surveillance, censorship, and repression of political opponents.
The activities of Sigurimi included monitoring citizens, infiltrating opposition groups, and conducting arrests without due process. The agency's methods instilled fear in the population, contributing to a culture of mistrust and paranoia. Following the fall of communism, Sigurimi was disbanded, and its legacy remains a controversial topic in Albanian history.
