Sifat al-Salbiyyah
Sifat al-Salbiyyah refers to the negative attributes or qualities that are ascribed to Allah in Islamic theology. These attributes emphasize what Allah is not, rather than what He is. For example, it asserts that Allah is not unjust, not ignorant, and not limited by time or space. This approach helps to clarify the nature of Allah by negating any human-like imperfections.
In contrast to Sifat al-Salbiyyah, there are positive attributes known as Sifat al-Thubutiyyah, which describe what Allah is, such as being all-knowing and all-powerful. Together, these concepts help Muslims understand the nature of Allah and maintain a clear distinction between the divine and human characteristics.
