Siege of Plevna
The Siege of Plevna was a significant military conflict during the Russo-Turkish War (1877-1878). It took place from July 1877 to January 1878, when the Russian Empire and its allies sought to capture the Ottoman city of Plevna, located in present-day Bulgaria. The siege was marked by fierce fighting, as the Ottoman forces, led by Osman Pasha, defended the city against Russian troops.
Despite several assaults, the Russians faced strong resistance and heavy casualties. The siege ultimately ended with the surrender of the Ottoman defenders, which marked a turning point in the war. The fall of Plevna opened the way for further Russian advances into the Balkans, contributing to the eventual defeat of the Ottoman Empire in the conflict.
