Siege of Messolonghi
The Siege of Messolonghi was a significant event during the Greek War of Independence, which took place from 1825 to 1826. The city of Messolonghi, located in western Greece, was besieged by Ottoman forces led by Ali Pasha. The Greek defenders, under the command of leaders like Markos Botsaris, fought bravely to protect their city and maintain their struggle for independence.
Despite their efforts, the siege lasted for nearly a year, leading to severe shortages of food and supplies for the Greek defenders. In April 1826, as the situation became desperate, many inhabitants chose to break out of the city in a final attempt to escape, resulting in heavy casualties. The siege became a symbol of Greek resistance and determination in the fight for freedom.
