Siege of Gallipoli
The Siege of Gallipoli, also known as the Gallipoli Campaign, took place during World War I from April 1915 to January 1916. It was an Allied operation aimed at securing a sea route to Russia and capturing the Ottoman capital, Constantinople. The campaign involved a naval attack followed by an amphibious landing on the Gallipoli Peninsula.
The operation faced fierce resistance from the Ottoman Empire, led by Mustafa Kemal Atatürk. Poor planning, logistical issues, and underestimation of the enemy contributed to heavy casualties and ultimately led to the evacuation of Allied forces. The campaign is remembered for its significant impact on both the Allies and the Ottomans.
