Siege of Fort Stanwix
The Siege of Fort Stanwix took place from August 2 to August 22, 1777, during the American Revolutionary War. Located in present-day Rome, New York, the fort was a strategic point for controlling the Mohawk River and protecting supply routes. British forces, led by Lieutenant Colonel Barry St. Leger, aimed to capture the fort to support their campaign in the region.
The siege involved a series of attacks and attempts to cut off supplies to the fort. The defenders, composed of American troops and local militia, successfully resisted the siege, aided by a relief force from Saratoga. The British ultimately withdrew, marking a significant victory for the American forces.
