Siege Of Damietta
The Siege of Damietta took place during the Fifth Crusade from 1218 to 1219. Crusaders, led by figures like John of Brienne and Pelagius of Albano, aimed to capture the Egyptian city of Damietta to gain a strategic foothold in the region. The siege began in 1218, and after a prolonged struggle, the city fell to the Crusaders in 1219.
Following the capture, the Crusaders faced challenges in maintaining control and advancing further into Egypt. The siege ultimately led to a series of military setbacks, culminating in the disastrous Battle of Mansourah in 1250, which marked a significant turning point in the Crusades.
