Sicilian Arabic
Sicilian Arabic is a variety of Arabic that developed in Sicily during the period of Arab rule from the 9th to the 11th centuries. It is influenced by the Arabic language but has also absorbed elements from Sicilian, Italian, and other languages due to the region's diverse history.
Although it is no longer widely spoken, Sicilian Arabic has left a lasting impact on the local dialects and vocabulary. Many words and phrases from this language can still be found in modern Sicilian and Italian, reflecting the cultural exchange that occurred during the Arab presence in Sicily.
