Shimon Bar Yochai
Shimon Bar Yochai was a prominent Jewish sage and mystic who lived in the 2nd century CE in ancient Israel. He is best known for his teachings in the Zohar, a foundational work of Kabbalah, which explores mystical interpretations of the Torah. Bar Yochai is often associated with the development of Jewish mysticism and is revered as a key figure in the Rabbinic tradition.
He is traditionally believed to have authored the Zohar while hiding from Roman authorities in a cave for thirteen years. His legacy is celebrated during the holiday of Lag BaOmer, which commemorates his life and teachings, attracting many to his burial site in Meron, Israel.
