Shadrach Bond
Shadrach Bond was an American politician who served as the first governor of the state of Illinois. He was born on April 24, 1773, in Maryland and moved to the Illinois Territory in 1814. Bond played a significant role in the early governance of the territory and was instrumental in its transition to statehood.
In 1820, Bond was elected as the first governor of Illinois, serving until 1824. His leadership helped establish the state's government and legal framework. After his term, he continued to be active in politics and served in various roles, including as a member of the U.S. House of Representatives. He passed away on June 12, 1832.
