Shabbateanism
Shabbateanism is a religious movement that emerged in the 17th century, centered around the figure of Shabbetai Tzvi, a Jewish mystic who claimed to be the Messiah. His teachings combined elements of Kabbalah and traditional Jewish beliefs, attracting a significant following among Jews in Europe and the Ottoman Empire.
After Shabbetai Tzvi converted to Islam under pressure from the Ottoman authorities, many of his followers faced a crisis of faith. Some continued to believe in his messianic role, while others adapted his teachings, leading to the development of various sects and beliefs within the movement.
