Sha Wujing, also known as the Sand Monk, is a character from the classic Chinese novel Journey to the West. He is one of the companions of the monk Xuanzang on his pilgrimage to retrieve Buddhist scriptures from India. Sha Wujing is depicted as a strong and loyal figure, often wielding a staff and known for his ability to control water.
Originally a river ogre, Sha Wujing was transformed into a monk after being defeated by Buddha. He represents redemption and the importance of teamwork, as he helps protect Xuanzang and the other companions, including Sun Wukong and Zhu Bajie, on their journey.
