Shōgakkō
Shōgakkō is the Japanese term for elementary school, typically catering to children aged 6 to 12 years. It is the first stage of formal education in Japan, where students learn basic subjects such as mathematics, science, social studies, and Japanese language. The curriculum also includes arts, physical education, and moral education, aiming to develop well-rounded individuals.
In Japan, Shōgakkō usually lasts for six years, and students are grouped into classes based on their age. Schools often emphasize teamwork and social skills, encouraging students to participate in group activities and community events. This foundational education prepares children for the next level, Chūgakkō or junior high school.
