Sensory Adaptation
Sensory adaptation is a process where our senses become less sensitive to constant stimuli over time. For example, when you enter a room with a strong smell, you may notice it at first, but after a while, you hardly notice it at all. This occurs because your sensory receptors adjust to the ongoing stimulus, allowing you to focus on new or changing information in your environment.
This phenomenon can occur in various senses, including sight, hearing, taste, smell, and touch. Sensory adaptation helps prevent sensory overload, enabling us to respond more effectively to changes in our surroundings. It plays a crucial role in how we perceive and interact with the world.
