Senate of France
The Senate of France is one of the two chambers of the French Parliament, the other being the National Assembly. It plays a crucial role in the legislative process, reviewing and amending proposed laws. Senators are elected for six-year terms, with half of the seats up for election every three years.
The Senate represents the territorial collectivities of France, ensuring that local interests are considered in national legislation. It is composed of 348 members, known as senators, who are elected by an electoral college. The Senate also has the power to oversee the government and can propose amendments to the constitution.
