Sembène Ousmane
Sembène Ousmane was a prominent Senegalese filmmaker and writer, often referred to as the "father of African cinema." Born on January 1, 1923, in Ziguinchor, Senegal, he initially worked as a carpenter and later became involved in the film industry. His films, such as Xala and Moolaadé, addressed social issues, colonialism, and the struggles of African identity.
Ousmane's literary works, including the novel God's Bits of Wood, highlighted the plight of workers and the impact of colonialism in Africa. He was a key figure in promoting African culture and storytelling, using both literature and film to inspire change and raise awareness about societal issues.
