Selim II
Selim II, also known as Selim the Sot, was the Sultan of the Ottoman Empire from 1566 to 1574. He is often remembered for his lack of interest in governance and his preference for a life of pleasure, which led to a decline in the empire's power. Despite this, his reign saw the continuation of the empire's vast territorial expansion.
During Selim II's rule, the Ottoman Navy became a significant force, achieving notable victories, such as the Battle of Lepanto in 1571. His reign also marked a period of cultural development, with advancements in architecture and the arts, showcasing the empire's rich heritage.
