Seed Development
Seed development is the process by which a fertilized ovule matures into a seed. This begins after pollination, when pollen fertilizes the ovule within the flower. The fertilized ovule then undergoes cell division and differentiation, forming the embryo, which will eventually grow into a new plant. Surrounding tissues develop into the seed coat and the endosperm, which provides nutrients to the embryo.
Once fully developed, seeds are dispersed through various methods, such as wind, water, or animals. This dispersal allows seeds to germinate in suitable environments, ensuring the continuation of the plant species. Proper conditions, including moisture and temperature, are essential for successful germination and growth.
