Sedimentary Formation
Sedimentary formation is the process by which sediments accumulate and eventually become rock. This occurs through the weathering and erosion of existing rocks, which break down into smaller particles. These particles are transported by wind, water, or ice and settle in layers over time, often in bodies of water like rivers, lakes, or oceans.
As layers of sediment build up, the weight of the overlying material compresses the lower layers. Minerals in the water can also help bind these particles together, leading to the formation of sedimentary rocks such as sandstone, shale, and limestone.
