Second-Degree Burns
Second-degree burns affect both the outer layer of skin, known as the epidermis, and the underlying layer, called the dermis. These burns are characterized by redness, swelling, and blisters. They can be caused by various sources, including scalding liquids, flames, or chemical exposure.
Healing from second-degree burns typically takes two to three weeks, depending on the severity. It is important to keep the burn clean and covered to prevent infection. In some cases, medical treatment may be necessary, especially if the burn covers a large area or is located on sensitive parts of the body, such as the face or hands.
