Scotch distillery
A Scotch distillery is a facility where Scotch whisky is produced, primarily in Scotland. The process involves mashing malted barley, fermenting it with yeast, and distilling the liquid. The whisky is then aged in wooden casks, typically made of oak, for a minimum of three years to develop its flavor.
There are two main types of Scotch: single malt, made from 100% malted barley at one distillery, and blended Scotch, which combines whiskies from different distilleries. Each distillery has its unique methods and recipes, contributing to the diverse range of flavors and styles found in Scotch whisky.
