Schleswig Wars
The Schleswig Wars were a series of conflicts in the 19th century over the territories of Schleswig and Holstein, which were part of the Danish Realm. The first war occurred from 1848 to 1851, primarily between Denmark and German nationalists who sought to incorporate these duchies into a greater German state. The conflict ended with a Danish victory, but tensions remained.
The second war, known as the Austro-Prussian War, took place in 1864. This time, Austria and Prussia allied against Denmark, leading to a swift defeat for the Danish forces. Following this war, Schleswig and Holstein were administered by Prussia and Austria, setting the stage for future conflicts in the region.
