Schaatsen
Schaatsen is the Dutch word for ice skating, a popular winter sport enjoyed in many countries. It involves gliding across ice using specially designed skates, which have a metal blade attached to the bottom. Ice skating can be done for recreation, competition, or transportation, and it is often practiced on frozen lakes, outdoor rinks, or indoor arenas.
In the Netherlands, Schaatsen holds cultural significance, especially during the winter months when canals freeze over. The country hosts various events, including the famous Elfstedentocht, a long-distance skating tour that connects eleven cities. Ice skating is not only a fun activity but also a way to bring communities together during the colder season.
