Elfstedentocht
The Elfstedentocht is a famous long-distance ice skating event held in the Netherlands. It takes place on a route connecting eleven cities in the province of Friesland. The race covers approximately 200 kilometers and is only organized when the ice is thick enough, which happens infrequently.
Participants skate through picturesque towns like Leeuwarden and Sneek, experiencing the local culture and scenery. The event attracts thousands of spectators and skaters, making it a significant part of Dutch winter traditions. The last official race occurred in 1997, and many eagerly await the next opportunity to participate.
