Scarring Alopecia
Scarring alopecia, also known as cicatricial alopecia, is a type of hair loss characterized by the destruction of hair follicles and replacement with scar tissue. This condition can result from various factors, including autoimmune diseases, infections, or inflammatory skin disorders. Unlike other forms of hair loss, scarring alopecia is often permanent, as the damaged follicles cannot regenerate.
Symptoms may include redness, itching, or pain in the affected areas, along with noticeable hair thinning or bald patches. Early diagnosis and treatment are crucial to prevent further hair loss. Common treatments involve medications to reduce inflammation and manage underlying conditions.
