Saxe-Gotha-Altenburg
Saxe-Gotha-Altenburg was a historical duchy located in what is now central Germany. It was part of the larger region of Saxony and was established in the early 17th century. The duchy was known for its cultural contributions, particularly in the fields of music and literature, and it played a significant role in the development of the Enlightenment in Germany.
The duchy was formed through the division of the House of Wettin, a prominent noble family. Over time, Saxe-Gotha-Altenburg underwent several territorial changes and eventually became part of the Grand Duchy of Saxe-Weimar-Eisenach in the 19th century, marking the end of its independent status.
