Satyagraha
Satyagraha is a philosophy and method of nonviolent resistance developed by Mahatma Gandhi. It emphasizes the power of truth and moral persuasion to bring about social and political change. The term combines the Sanskrit words "satya" (truth) and "agraha" (firmness or insistence), reflecting the idea of holding firmly to truth without resorting to violence.
This approach was notably used during the Indian independence movement against British rule, where peaceful protests, civil disobedience, and non-cooperation were employed. Satyagraha aims to create a just society by appealing to the conscience of oppressors, fostering understanding and reconciliation rather than conflict.
