Satras
Satras are traditional monastic institutions found primarily in the state of Assam, India. They serve as centers for the practice of Vaishnavism, a sect of Hinduism that worships Lord Vishnu and his avatars. Satras play a crucial role in preserving the cultural and spiritual heritage of the region, often featuring unique architecture and vibrant festivals.
Each satra is typically led by a satrasadhak, who guides the community in religious practices, rituals, and teachings. These institutions also promote art, music, and dance, contributing to the rich cultural tapestry of Assamese society. Satras are not just places of worship but also hubs for social and educational activities.
