Sardinian fallow deer
The Sardinian fallow deer (Dama dama) is a subspecies of fallow deer native to the island of Sardinia, Italy. It is characterized by its distinctive spotted coat, which varies in color from light brown to dark reddish-brown. These deer are medium-sized, with males typically larger than females, and they possess broad, palmate antlers that can grow up to 80 centimeters long.
Sardinian fallow deer primarily inhabit forests and woodlands, where they feed on a variety of vegetation, including leaves, grasses, and fruits. Due to habitat loss and hunting, their population has declined, leading to conservation efforts aimed at protecting this unique subspecies and its natural habitat.
