Sarah Grimké
Sarah Grimké (1792-1873) was an American abolitionist and women's rights advocate. Born in South Carolina, she came from a wealthy slave-owning family but became a vocal critic of slavery. Along with her sister, Angelina Grimké, she traveled the northern United States to speak out against the injustices of slavery and promote equality.
In addition to her work in abolition, Sarah Grimké was an early advocate for women's rights. She believed that the fight against slavery was connected to the fight for women's suffrage. Her writings, including the influential letter "Letters on the Equality of the Sexes," helped lay the groundwork for future feminist movements.
