Sap Collecting
Sap collecting is the process of harvesting the sugary liquid known as sap from certain trees, primarily maple trees. This sap is rich in sugars and is often used to produce maple syrup. The collection typically occurs in late winter to early spring when temperatures fluctuate between freezing at night and warmer during the day.
To collect sap, small holes are drilled into the tree's trunk, and spouts are inserted to direct the sap into buckets or tubing systems. The sap flows out as the tree begins to thaw, and it can be collected daily. Once gathered, the sap is then boiled down to concentrate the sugars and create syrup.
