Sanguinaria canadensis
Sanguinaria canadensis, commonly known as bloodroot, is a perennial flowering plant native to North America. It typically grows in wooded areas and features distinctive white flowers that bloom in early spring. The plant's leaves are large and lobed, emerging after the flowers, and can reach up to 12 inches in diameter.
The name "bloodroot" comes from the red-orange sap found in its rhizome, which has been used historically by Indigenous peoples for various medicinal purposes. However, caution is advised, as the plant can be toxic if ingested in large quantities.
