Sangihe Arc
The Sangihe Arc is a volcanic island chain located in the northern part of Indonesia, stretching between the islands of Sulawesi and Halmahera. This region is part of the larger Pacific Ring of Fire, known for its high seismic activity and numerous volcanoes. The arc consists of several islands, including Sangihe and Talaud, which are characterized by their rugged terrain and rich biodiversity.
Geologically, the Sangihe Arc is formed by the subduction of the Philippine Sea Plate beneath the Sundaland Plate. This tectonic activity leads to the formation of volcanoes and contributes to the area's unique ecosystems. The region is also home to various indigenous cultures and is known for its vibrant marine life, making it an important area for both conservation and research.
