FSLN
The FSLN, or Sandinista National Liberation Front, is a political party in Nicaragua that was founded in 1961. It emerged as a revolutionary movement aimed at overthrowing the Somoza dictatorship, which had ruled the country for decades. The FSLN successfully led a revolution in 1979, establishing a socialist government that focused on land reform, education, and healthcare.
After losing power in the 1990 elections, the FSLN transitioned into a political party. In 2006, Daniel Ortega, a prominent leader of the FSLN, was re-elected as president. The party has since been involved in various controversies regarding governance, human rights, and electoral processes in Nicaragua.
