Sand Hills
The Sand Hills are a unique geographical region located in central Nebraska, characterized by rolling sand dunes and grasslands. This area covers approximately 19,600 square miles and is primarily composed of fine, wind-blown sand. The Sand Hills are home to a variety of ecosystems, including wetlands and prairies, which support diverse wildlife.
The formation of the Sand Hills began thousands of years ago due to glacial activity and the erosion of riverbanks. Today, they are recognized for their ecological significance and are part of the Sand Hills Prairie ecosystem. The region is also important for ranching and agriculture, providing grazing land for livestock.
