San Miguel Mission
The San Miguel Mission, also known as the Mission San Miguel Arcángel, is one of the oldest missions in California, founded in 1797. Located in San Miguel, it was established by Spanish Franciscan missionaries to spread Christianity among the local Native American population. Today, the San Miguel Mission serves as a museum and a place of worship, attracting visitors interested in California's mission history. It is part of the California Mission Trail, which includes 21 missions that were established along the coast during the Spanish colonization.
