San Ignacio de Loyola
San Ignacio de Loyola was a Spanish priest and theologian who founded the Society of Jesus, also known as the Jesuits, in 1534. Born in 1491, he initially pursued a military career but turned to religion after being injured in battle. His spiritual experiences led him to develop the Spiritual Exercises, a set of meditations and prayers that guide individuals in their spiritual growth.
Ignatius was canonized as a saint by Pope Gregory XV in 1622. The Jesuits became known for their educational, missionary, and charitable work around the world. Today, San Ignacio de Loyola is celebrated for his contributions to the Catholic Church and spirituality.
