San Francisco Volcanic Field
The San Francisco Volcanic Field is a volcanic region located in northern Arizona, near the city of Flagstaff. It covers an area of about 1,800 square miles and features over 600 volcanic vents, including cinder cones and lava flows. The most prominent volcano in the field is Humphreys Peak, which is the highest point in Arizona.
This volcanic field was formed by volcanic activity that began around 6 million years ago and continued until about 1,000 years ago. The eruptions produced various geological formations, including the Coconino National Forest and the Walnut Canyon. Today, the area is a popular destination for hiking, sightseeing, and studying geology.
