San Felipe de Jesús (Martyr)
San Felipe de Jesús was a Mexican martyr born in 1572. He is known for being the first Mexican saint canonized by the Catholic Church. Felipe was a Franciscan missionary who traveled to Japan, where he was arrested for his faith during a time of persecution against Christians.
In 1597, he was executed alongside 25 other Christians in Nagasaki. His martyrdom is commemorated on February 5, the day of his feast. San Felipe de Jesús is often depicted in religious art holding a cross, symbolizing his unwavering faith and dedication to spreading Christianity despite the dangers he faced.
