San Felipe de Jesús was a Mexican martyr born in 1572. He is known for being the first Mexican saint canonized by the Catholic Church. Felipe was a Franciscan missionary who traveled to Japan, where he was arrested for his faith during a time of persecution against Christians. In 1597, he was executed alongside 25 other Christians in Nagasaki. His martyrdom is commemorated on February 5, the day of his feast.
