Salt Plains
The Salt Plains are vast areas covered with salt crusts, formed by the evaporation of water in shallow lakes or seas. These plains are often found in arid regions where high temperatures and low rainfall lead to the concentration of salt. The most famous example is the Great Salt Lake in Utah, which is the largest saltwater lake in the Western Hemisphere.
In addition to their unique landscapes, salt plains can support specialized ecosystems. Certain plants and animals have adapted to thrive in these saline environments. The Salt Plains National Wildlife Refuge in Oklahoma is a notable area where visitors can observe migratory birds and other wildlife that depend on these unique habitats.
