Salix alba
Salix alba, commonly known as the white willow, is a deciduous tree native to Europe and Asia. It typically grows near water sources, such as rivers and lakes, and can reach heights of 15 to 25 meters. The tree is characterized by its long, slender branches and narrow, lance-shaped leaves that are green on top and silvery underneath.
The bark of the white willow contains salicin, a compound that has been used historically for its medicinal properties, including pain relief. Salix alba is also valued for its ability to stabilize soil and prevent erosion, making it an important species in ecological restoration projects.
