Salchow Jump
The Salchow jump is a figure skating jump that is performed from a backward outside edge. It is named after the early figure skater Ulrich Salchow, who first executed it in competition in the early 20th century. The jump involves a single or multiple rotations in the air before landing on the opposite foot.
To perform the Salchow, skaters take off from their back outside edge, using a sweeping motion of the free leg to gain height and rotation. It is considered one of the easier jumps in figure skating, making it a common choice for beginners and a fundamental element in many routines.
