Saint Swithun
Saint Swithun was a 9th-century Anglo-Saxon bishop of Winchester, known for his piety and dedication to the Christian faith. He became the patron saint of weather, and his feast day is celebrated on July 15. According to legend, he wished to be buried outside, where rain could fall on his grave, leading to the belief that his intercession could influence the weather.
His life and legacy are closely associated with the Winchester Cathedral, where his relics were originally housed. The saying "Saint Swithun's Day, if thou dost rain, for forty days it will remain" reflects the popular belief in his ability to predict weather patterns.
