Saint Mary of Egypt
Saint Mary of Egypt is a Christian saint celebrated for her life of repentance and transformation. Born in Egypt around the 4th century, she lived a life of sin and indulgence until a pilgrimage to Jerusalem changed her path. Upon attempting to enter the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, she was mysteriously prevented from entering, which led her to reflect on her life choices.
After this moment of realization, Mary repented and spent the next 47 years in the wilderness, living a life of asceticism and prayer. She is often depicted in Christian art and is commemorated on the fifth Sunday of Lent in the Eastern Orthodox Church, symbolizing the power of redemption.
