Saint Francis
Saint Francis of Assisi was an Italian friar and preacher born in 1181. He is best known for his love of nature and animals, often depicted with birds and other creatures. He founded the Franciscan Order, which emphasized a life of poverty, humility, and service to others.
He is also recognized for his commitment to peace and his efforts to bridge gaps between different faiths. In 1224, he received the stigmata, marks resembling the wounds of Jesus Christ, which further solidified his status as a holy figure. Saint Francis was canonized in 1228 and is the patron saint of animals and the environment.
