Saint Ethelwold
Saint Ethelwold was a prominent Anglo-Saxon bishop and abbot, known for his role in the revival of monastic life in England during the 10th century. He was born around 904 and became the Bishop of Winchester in 963. Ethelwold was instrumental in reforming monasteries, promoting the Benedictine Rule, and establishing new monastic communities.
Ethelwold is often associated with the monastery at Bury St. Edmunds, where he played a key role in its development. He is remembered for his dedication to education and the spiritual growth of his community. His feast day is celebrated on August 1.
