Saint Blasius
Saint Blasius, also known as Saint Blaise, was a 4th-century Christian martyr and bishop of Sebaste, located in modern-day Turkey. He is best known for his miraculous healing of a boy who was choking on a fish bone. This act of compassion led to his veneration as the patron saint of throat ailments.
Celebrated on February 3rd, the feast day of Saint Blasius includes the tradition of the "blessing of the throats," where candles are placed in the shape of a cross around the necks of the faithful. His legacy continues to inspire devotion among Christians, particularly in the Catholic Church.
