Saber-Toothed Cats
Saber-toothed cats, often referred to as saber-toothed tigers, were prehistoric predators that lived during the Pleistocene epoch. They are best known for their long, curved canine teeth, which could grow up to 8 inches long. These cats were not actually tigers but belonged to a different family called Felidae.
These animals primarily hunted large herbivores, such as mammoths and bison. Their powerful build and strong forelimbs helped them tackle and bring down prey. Saber-toothed cats went extinct around 10,000 years ago, likely due to climate change and the decline of their food sources.
