The Cave Bear (Ursus spelaeus) was a large species of bear that lived in Europe and parts of Asia during the Pleistocene epoch. It is estimated to have existed from around 300,000 to 15,000 years ago. Cave bears were primarily herbivorous, feeding on plants, fruits, and nuts, and they often inhabited caves, which provided shelter and protection. Fossils of cave bears have been found in various archaeological sites, often alongside Neanderthals and other prehistoric animals. These bears could weigh up to 1,500 pounds and stood about 10 feet tall when on their hind legs. Their extinction is believed to be linked to climate change and competition with humans.
