STEM Extension
The STEM Extension is a program that allows international students in the United States to extend their Optional Practical Training (OPT) period. This extension is specifically for those who have completed degrees in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics. Eligible students can gain an additional 24 months of work experience in their field, helping them to enhance their skills and employability.
To qualify for the STEM Extension, students must apply before their initial OPT expires and meet specific criteria, such as having a job offer from an employer enrolled in the E-Verify program. This initiative aims to support the growth of talent in critical industries and promote innovation in the U.S. economy.
